STEM Speaker, September 9, 2014: Impact of a Pre-Freshman Boot Camp on Student Performance

Associate Professor of Biological Sciences, Louisiana State University
Take-Home Lessons
• In-coming freshman are unaware of their own lack of study skills and as a result
are often confused when they do not perform as well as they did in high school.
• Targeted interventions integrating content, exams, study skills, and learning community
building can have an impact on student success in specific courses and on long-terms
factors such as retention in the major and graduation rate.
