The American Library Association presented Natalie Taylor, an associate professor and director of the College of Arts and Sciences鈥� School of Information, with the Beta Phi Mu Award for her distinguished service to education for librarianship.
鈥淭o be named this year鈥檚 library science educator and earn this award makes me really happy,鈥� Taylor said. 鈥淚 try to make sure that the research and work we're doing in our department is applicable for practitioners and that it's something that will help our students become amazing librarians.鈥�
In addition to leading the School of Information, home to a master鈥檚 in library and information science program ranked 27th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, Taylor continues to make significant contributions to the field.
Taylor is a prolific scholar and editor for 鈥淟ibrary Quarterly,鈥� a leading journal in library and information studies, and has published extensively in top journals including鈥�淪chool Library Research,鈥� 鈥淛ournal of Information Science,鈥� 鈥淐omputers & Education鈥濃�痑nd 鈥淛ournal of Documentation.鈥�
She has co-authored four books and is highly regarded as a professor. Student demand for her classes consistently exceeds available spots, reflecting her impactful teaching and strong reputation.
According to ALA鈥檚 media alert, 鈥淭he jury was impressed by Taylor鈥檚 scholastic focus on advocacy, information policy and ethics, recognizing their importance in preparing new librarians to contribute meaningfully to the profession.鈥�
