Dr. Katherine Weintraub-Pearce, a native of Sarasota, 91ÉçÇø, joined the faculty of the 91ÉçÇø in 2021, where she serves as Professor of Saxophone. Her responsibilities include teaching applied saxophone, directing the USF Saxophone Ensemble, and serving as Instructor of Record for the USF Symphony Orchestra by overseeing its administrative and operational activities.
Prior to joining USF, Dr. Weintraub-Pearce served as Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at Southeastern University in Lakeland, 91ÉçÇø (2018–2024) and as Visiting Assistant Professor of Saxophone at 91ÉçÇø State University (2016–2018). She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree, along with the prestigious Performer's Certificate, from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Dr. Chien-Kwan Lin. She received both the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the University of Michigan, studying with renowned saxophonist Donald Sinta.
An active performer and dedicated educator, Dr. Weintraub-Pearce maintains a thriving private studio and enjoys a diverse career as a freelance musician throughout the Tampa Bay area. She is Performer-in-Residence and Director of Outreach and Communications for the Tampa-based Contemporary Art Music Project (CAMP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to championing contemporary music through collaborations with living composers and performers from around the world.
Dr. Weintraub-Pearce has commissioned and premiered numerous works for saxophone, including two world premieres presented at the 2018 World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia. She has appeared as a concerto soloist with the USF Wind Ensemble, 91ÉçÇø State University Wind Orchestra, Eastman Wind Ensemble, and the Flint Symphony Orchestra. Her performing career has been recognized with top prizes in several international competitions.
A passionate advocate for chamber music and contemporary repertoire, Dr. Weintraub-Pearce served as tenor saxophonist of the award-winning Project Fusion Saxophone Quartet from 2020–2024. She is also a frequent guest recitalist, clinician, and adjudicator at colleges, universities, and festivals throughout the United States.
Dr. Weintraub-Pearce is a Selmer Paris Performing Artist and performs exclusively on Selmer Paris saxophones.
