Munir Mandviwalla is a professor, Muma Distinguished Research Fellow, and director of the School of Information Systems in the Muma College of Business at the University of South 91ÉçÇø.
Mandviwalla researches digital transformation, AI, IT workforce, and legacy systems modernization. He has published more than 50 articles and cases in top outlets such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, ACM Transactions on Computer Human Interaction, Decision Support Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Public Administration Review, IEEE Transactions, and others. He teaches design, AI, philosophy of science, and digital transformation.
He co-created a patented software platform, co-founded PRO Community, LLC, a student and employee development platform, and is working on the AI Opportunity Index, a quantitative assessment of AI opportunity in the U.S.
Mandviwalla has received over $10 million in funding from Lockheed Martin, NBCUniversal, Pfizer, Microsoft, SAP, Walmart, Society for Information Management, IBM, National Science Foundation, and others. He also led the creation of student chapters worldwide for the Association for Information Systems and created the IS Job Index — a biennial national analysis of the entry level IT workforce, and the AIS Leadership Excellence Award.
He has received 35 awards and honors including Microsoft Innovation Award, IBM E-Business Award, and Association for Information Systems (AIS) awards for Outstanding Contribution to Information Systems Education, Technology Challenge, Sandra Slaughter Service, and Innovation in Teaching. He received the Claremont Graduate University Alumni Hall of Fame, Temple University Stauffer Award, Fox School Musser Excellence in Faculty Service, and Fox School Excellence in Pedagogical Research Award.
Previously, he was professor of Management Information Systems, Milton F. Stauffer Senior Research Fellow, and executive director of the Institute for Business and Information Technology (IBIT) at the Fox School of Business, Temple University. At IBIT, Mandviwalla engaged with industry on knowledge and talent development through an advisory board, corporate partners, the Digital Innovation Foundry, and other programs. As the founding chair of the Fox School’s MIS department till 2017, Mandviwalla led the creation of nationally ranked programs, achieved 100% placement, and top 5 ranking for departmental research productivity.
Mandviwalla holds a BSc in Systems Engineering from Boston University, a Peter F. Drucker School of Management MBA and a PhD in Information Science from Claremont Graduate University.
