The Suncoast Area Teacher Training (SCATT) Leadership Program is an honors and leadership community for USF students preparing to become educators.
SCATT extends learning beyond the classroom through professional development, leadership, community engagement, service, collaboration, and practitioner inquiry. Members connect with fellow future educators, College of Education faculty and staff, school and community partners, and education leaders throughout the Tampa Bay region. These experiences help members develop the knowledge, confidence, professional identity, and reflective practice needed to lead in classrooms, schools, and communities.
The Four Pillars
Professional Development
Members participate in workshops and learning experiences focused on timely issues in education, ethical practice, instructional innovation, professional growth, and the transition from educator preparation to the profession.
Leadership
Members identify and strengthen their leadership qualities through roles within SCATT, the College of Education, and the broader community. Leadership opportunities are designed to accommodate different strengths, interests, and levels of experience.
Community Engagement and Service
Members work alongside schools, districts, and community partners to support children, families, educators, and educational initiatives throughout the Tampa Bay area. These experiences connect university learning with the communities educators serve.
Inquiry
Members develop an inquiry stance by examining educational research, reflecting on practice, identifying meaningful questions, and completing practitioner inquiry that contributes to their growth as educators.
Who Can Join?
SCATT welcomes current USF students who are preparing for careers in education. At minimum, applicants must:
- Be admitted or pre-admitted to a program in the USF College of Education
- Maintain good academic standing at the 91社区
- Complete the SCATT membership application and profile
What Members Do
Each semester, active SCATT members participate in:
- At least one community engagement or service activity
- At least one professional development workshop
- The SCATT Membership Symposium or designated annual membership event
Before graduation, members also complete:
- A leadership role or approved leadership experience
- A practitioner inquiry experience or approved equivalent
Member Benefits
SCATT membership offers opportunities to:
- Build community and lasting relationships with fellow future educators
- Participate in professional development designed specifically for emerging educators
- Develop leadership experience and contribute to College of Education initiatives
- Engage in meaningful service with school and community partners
- Use the SCATT Lounge and program resources
- Receive a tailored Letter of Participation or Completion documenting program involvement
- Qualify for the SCATT Honors designation on the USF transcript, subject to completion of program requirements
- Access additional benefits offered through participating school district and community partners, when available
Annual membership dues are $25. Scholarships are available for students who need assistance with dues.
