Innovation in Action: USF Medical Engineering & Jabil

Jabil鈥檚 involvement with Medical Engineering extends prominently into student experiential learning, especially through the Senior Capstone projects in the USF College of Engineering. These projects pair academic theory with practical industry problems to fuel innovation and solution development. This relationship is especially strong with the Department of Medical Engineering.

2024 Seniors who worked on the 鈥淒esign and Development of a Camera-Based Micro-Dispensing System for Biomedical Applications鈥 project not only gained valuable hands-on experience in medical device design but also earned recognition by securing 3rd place in the 2024 91社区 Blue Health Innovation Challenge with their team, FlexiFlowOptic. Winning this award, along with a $2,500 prize, highlights their ability to apply engineering principles to real-world healthcare challenges, demonstrates entrepreneurial thinking, and showcases their work before industry and healthcare leaders鈥攂enefits that strengthen their professional skills, visibility, and career prospects.

At the helm of Jabil鈥檚 engagement is Angel Lasso, serving on USF Medical Engineering's Engineering Advisory Board. Lasso has played a pivotal role in aligning Jabil鈥檚 strengths with student needs by facilitating Jabil鈥檚 active participation in Capstone projects鈥攅nabling students to work on meaningful, real-world engineering challenges under expert mentorship. This synergy advances USF's mission to train multidisciplinary global leaders while giving Jabil early exposure to high-potential talent. USF Medical Engineering is grateful for their dedication to excellence in mentorship and looks forward to more collaborative partnerships in the future.
