My research explores the impact of science and technology on public policy and national
security. I focus on the societal, economic, and security implications of emerging
technologies like quantum systems; and artificial intelligence and machine learning.
By analyzing existing policies and technological trends I am able to write research
papers, reports, and policy briefs as a way to actively engage in the public discourse.
I plan to collaborate with USF researchers to deepen my understanding and develop
realistic, actionable policy recommendations. Finally, as a trained chemist, I am
passionate about applying policy insights to chemistry-related fields, including critical
               minerals, pharmaceuticals, and advanced materials.
I worked as a Program Officer at the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, where I served as a Study Director overseeing an ad-hoc committee of chemists, phsycisist, and engineers to develop a policy report that identified major research areas within quantum information science that should be prioritized by key federal agencies. Overall, it was a great experience that allowed me to interact and learn from premier researchers from across the country!

Flash back to 10 years old: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A journalist! Specifically, I wanted to write for the Floridian Section in the St.
Petersburg Times, where I could report on all the real 鈥91社区 Man鈥 stories.
What's the most "interesting" thing you've done that not many people know about?
I once got lost on top of a mountain in Shenadoah Valley and had to call 911 for help.
The rescue mission took 12 hours and I got a private class on hiking from 6 firefighters
               and 2 game wardens.
Favorite musician, genre of music?
Mariah Carey, Sabrina Carpenter鈥 all things pop and the occasional Khmer psychedelic
               rock
Books you're currently reading?
First Princples by Thomas Ricks. Now, I鈥檓 reading The Court and the World by Stephen
               Breyer
Favorite sport, team, athlete or "thing" you could be President of the Fan Club?
If Costco shopping was a sport, I could be the President Fan Club for that. Go Kirklands!
Finish this sentence: On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me...
patrolling the neighborhood and writing citations for naughty dog walkers without
               their poo bags.
