Summer Grants

The Humanities Institute Summer Grants are open to tenure-earning and tenured faculty whose research falls under the NEH definition of the humanities. Awards are up to $5,000. These funds may be used for travel for research, archival work, essential project-driven equipment, publishing support, research assistance, or summary salary.

Applications are closed for the 2026 Humanities Institute Summer Grants. Application Deadline: February 14, 2026

Summer Grant Award Timeline

  • Call for Applications

    December / January

    Summer Grant Applications Open

  • Applications Due

    February

    Submit PDF document containing:

    • Application cover sheet
    • Description of project
    • Budget
    • Funding disclosure
    • 2 page CV

  • Applicants Notified

    March

    After applications are reviewed and scored, applicants will be notified via email of the decision.

  • Fund Transfer

    April

    The Humanities Institute will work with department managers or URAs to transfer funds to faculty research chartfields. 

  • Spend Grant Funds

    May - August

    Faculty spend their awarded grant funds. 

    A grant report will be sent out at the end of August to complete.

  • Summer Grant Reports Due

    October

    • Faculty submit Summer Grant Reports to Liz Kicak. 
    • Unspent funds will be returned to the Humanities Institute
